March 2nd, 2009

This past meeting was focused on evaluating and raising self esteem. To start, everyone was given a handout and asked to answer questions about someone they admired or thought was very self confident. Next, the boys and girls were split up and asked to describe the perfect boy or girl. Through this activity people were shown that everyone's definition of "perfect" is different, therefor there is not such thing as a "perfect" person. The group then evaluated a barbie doll, pointing out the things about her that make her unrealistic, for example- if she were a real person, she would be 7 feet tall, she is always smiling, wears too much make up, etc. Lastly, everyone wrote how self confident they believed themselves to be and all the answers were put on a timeline from 0%- 100%. The boys wrote on green sticky notes and girls wrote on yellow notes so the different levels of gender self confidence could be seen.
