The Archdiocese of Detroit announced the option of having the Family of Parishes Commissioning Mass or Service as the Third Gathering. The pastors of our Family (OLVictory, St. Colette, St. Edith and St. Kenneth), then decided to conduct the Gathering #3 at our Commissioning Mass/Service. In early August, the pastors of our family will meet to identify several optional dates for the Commissioning/Third Gathering and forward the dates to the Archdiocese. The Archdiocese will then set the date for the Commissioning/Third Gathering, which is to take place before the end of November.

Why Attend a Family Gathering?
Families of Parishes evolved with the lay faithful in mind.
Gatherings One and Two - these are virtual events and may be viewed from home OR at a "group watch" in the St. Colette Activities Center.
Gathering Three - this is scheduled to be a live event. Location to be announced.
The Archdiocese would like everyone, regardless of how you will be watching, to register for the event at fopgatherings.org.
Families of Parishes evolved with the lay faithful in mind.
- Families of Parishes are for the benefit of the lay faithful.
- We are the Body of Christ.
- We are meant to worship as community.
- We need the Sacraments to sanctify and build up the Body of Christ and to give worship to God. CCC 1122
- If there are not enough priests to minister to each individual parish, the grace of the sacraments will not be available to us.
- We need to come together as one Body.
- Come and meet other parishes in your family, learn about their unique characteristics. Participate in discussions with other members of your family.
- Hear stories from lay persons in dioceses that have already participated in such a transition. We learn through the experiences of others.
- Begin the chapter of journeying in faith with many other Catholics in your community. You may see them every day but have never met.
- This is what being a joyful missionary is all about.
- Be a witness to your faith.
- Having encounters with Christ, through encounter with others.
- Grow on our journey of faith through new experiences, discovering and sharing our gifts and talents to accompany others on their journey of faith.
- Bear witness to your faith. We can all share our lives of faith, love for others, kindness, compassion, and more.

St. Colette Parish Named as Member of Family of Parishes
On Wednesday, December 9, 2020, Archbishop Allen Vigneron announced plans for the future mission of the Church here in the Archdiocese of Detroit with Families of Parishes. A Family of Parishes is a grouping of three or more parishes that collaborates in deeper and more intentional ways than parishes have ever done before. Each parish in a Family will retain its own unique identity, similar to how each sibling has his or her own unique role in a human family. This is not a parish cluster or merger as we have done in the past. Rather, Families of Parishes share similarities to other models that have been implemented in other diocese of the United States and Canada, with new parish structures to support the Church’s mission. What we learned from Synod ’16 and a new Vatican document, “The Pastoral Conversion of the Parish Community in the Service of Evangelizing Mission of the Church” is that parishes need to be realigned for mission. These new Families of Parishes will collaborate by sharing resources – including priests, deacons, staffs and programs across parish lines – to further advance the mission Christ has entrusted to the Church.
Every parish of the Archdiocese will participate in this renewed structure. Since Pentecost Sunday 2020, our Regional Bishops and Vicars have been working with priests to determine which parishes will come together to form Families. On December 9th is was announced that St. Colette Parish will be part of a Family of Parishes that includes the local parishes of St. Edith in Livonia, St. Kenneth in Plymouth, and Our Lady of Victory in Northville. The planning process for the creation of our Family will begin in January 2021 and the implementation will begin in July 2021.
