First Reconciliation

Picture
The Catholic Sacrament of Reconciliation (also known as confession or penance) has three elements: conversion, confession, and celebration. In it we find God's unconditional mercy and forgiveness; as a result we are called to forgive others.

Children going into their fourth grade year or older are at an age where they can prepare to receive their First Reconciliation. Preparation for this sacrament beings in the fall with reception of the sacrament in late January. Preparation involves three in-person meetings which include classroom time for the students, plus two lessons that need to be done at home. Following preparation there are two additional dates: a rehearsal in the Church and the celebration of the Sacrament.

For students making their First Reconciliation in January 2022:

October 26, 2021 - 6:30-8pm - In-person meeting (Parent & Student)
At this meeting students will do Lesson #1 in the classroom with a catechist, while parents are given information about the sacrament and requirements.

November 9, 2021 - 6:30-8pm - In-person meeting (Students only)
At this meeting students will do Lessons #2 & 3 in the classroom with a catechist.

November and December, 2021 - Home Study
Students will do Lessons #4 & 5 at home with their parents. These lessons are due back to the Religious Ed. Office on January 11.

January 11, 2022 - 6:30-8pm - In-person meeting (Students only)
At this meeting students will do Lesson #6 in the classroom with a catechist.

January 25, 2022 - 6:30pm - Rehearsal in the Church

January 29, 2022 - 1:15pm - First Reconciliation Ceremony in the Church
