First Holy Communion
Communion is considered one of the holiest and most important occasions in a Roman Catholic person's life. It is the first time that a person receives the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist, which is the consuming of the consecrated bread and the consecrated wine. Catholics believe these to be truly the body and blood of Jesus Christ.
Children eight years and older (typically in their 2nd grade year) are at an age where they can prepare to receive their First Communion. Preparation for the sacrament begins in the fall or early winter with the reception of the sacrament in late April/early May. Preparation involves two in-person meetings which include classroom time for the students plus a retreat. Following preparation there are two additional dates: a rehearsal in the Church and the celebration of the Sacrament.
PLEASE NOTE: Dates for the sacramental ceremony are set in stone. If you are unable to make the ceremony, your child will need to make their sacrament the following year.
Parish policy is that students must have completed one year of catechism BEFORE they can begin to prepare for this sacrament. Families can register for the sacrament when they register for catechism.
